Faucet Mounted Water Purifiers, like the popular Brita on faucet water filter, provide good quality tap water filtration at a single point in your home at a very economical price. Faucet mounted water filters can usually be installed without any tools so they are perfect as a do it yourself project.  On tap iron filter units are an inexpensive way to removed discoloration from well water.

 

Tap or faucet mounted water filters reduce lead, mercury, asbestos, sediment and chlorine, and remove microbiological cysts that can contaminate drinking water. Some faucet mounted filters are also specially designed to remove Trihalomethanes (THMs) - the chlorination by-products linked to increased risk of cancer.

 

Faucet mounted water filters have removable filter cartridges that need to be changed periodically - usually after 2 to 3 months. Some have an added bypass feature that allows you to obtain unfiltered water from the faucet when filtered water is not required, extending the life of the filter. Faucet mounted water filters fit any standard water faucet and are generally very inexpensive but vary in quality and levels of filtration provided.

 

 

Look for a kitchen water filter systems that will mount in such a way that it doesn't interfere with normal use of the sink.  Filters that mount off to the side are generally much more convenient.

We also suggest that you look for a filter with a shut off switch that is easy to operate with wet hands.  The switch to turn the filtration unit on or off should be conveniently located and sturdy enough to stand up to years of use. 

 

The aesthetics of a unit may be a consideration.  Some people prefer a stainless steel unit that blends into the look and feel of their existing stainless steel kitchen fixture.
